buffalogal78: Pray without ceasing...

Please please please lift sweet Jacob and his family in your prayers today. Jacob has a rare cancer of the adrenal gland, called adrenalcortical carcinoma. He's 6 years old, and was diagnosed when he was just 3. He's been on a vent for quite some time now, and is in desperate need of a miracle. The strength and faith of his family are amazing. This is a quote from his mom's journal entry this morning:
"Jacob is dangerously teetering on the edge of that darn cliff and I’m not sure any of us can reach him to pull him back - no matter how long our chain of support is! However I realized today something very important. IF Jacob falls - he will be caught in the loving arms of Jesus and he will without a doubt be okay. In fact he will be better than okay - he will be absolutely PERFECT. He will no longer be sick with tubes sticking out all over and he will feel nothing but extreme JOY . . . Things we can not offer him on this earth."

Jacob's website is: http://www.caringbridge.org/fl/jacob I know his family is SO appreciative of the prayers and support!

Two other boys in desperate need of prayers today are: Jake and Will

averypenguin: Favorite Worship Songs

Hey there. I'm trying to build on our church's worship repertoire. What are some of your favorite worship songs that have recently become popular or might be relatively unknown (but available)? Ala, "Shout to the Lord" and "You Are My King" are very, very standard, I'm wanting something new.

As a second question, what songs does your church really respond to as far as altar calls are concerned?

averypenguin: The Search for a Script

Hello there. I am relying on you, the slueths of the LiveJournal frontier, to help me find something I've been searching for these past five years. (Religious disclaimer: This question involves a religious drama script, but I'm not asking or concerning myself with your religion, just whether or not you have seen or can find the script.)

Five years ago, at a Centrifuge Summer Camp in Gulfport, MS, I saw a short (ala 10 minutes) scene performed by the staffers of the camp. The concept was this: four hikers seek shelter in an abandoned chapel during a thunderstorm. In the chapel is a large {portrait / statue / stained glass window} of Jesus. After some dialogue, they all go to sleep. Each one, in turn, dreams about who Jesus is to them. To one, he's a Santa Claus or Sugar Daddy figure, giving everything they want. To another (I think), he's a Rambo figure, fighting all the battles. I can't remember the third, but to the last, he's a judge, condemning the guy and casting him into hell. The script ends with them all leaving one by one, the last staying, breaking down, and receiving salvation at the end.

The camp staff followed it up with a creative movement routine involving masks to a song whose title I also can't remember. Have any of you ever heard of or seen this scene, have the script, know where to get the script, know who wrote the scene, anything? (I reluctantly figure the camp staff probably wrote it and it wouldn't be available anywhere else, but here's hoping, eh?)

Thanks in advance! (x-posted every which way)

averypenguin: Searching for Musicians?

Are there any communities specifically geared toward finding musicians, or specifically church musicians?

My church is looking for a few new musicians on a volunteer basis and I want to search as widely as I can.

If it helps, we really want people outside of the standard guitar, drums, keyboard, singer sector. I would personally love to get some brass in there, and my pastor is dying for strings. Any ideas?

What's your current favorite worship song? How'd you find it?

averypenguin: God Will Make a Way

So this morning, I woke up with an unbelievable sore throat. I mean, I sounded like Jimmy Durante, if he had a cold. It was bad.

And of course, I'm the worship leader at my church (the interim while my main worship leader is on hiatus), two services, no backup available (because I'm the backup! hehe). Somehow, we got through the whole two services, I just couldn't sing for the second one and had to let someone on my team take over main melody.

But one of the songs we picked last week for this week was "It is Well With My Soul." Each member of the band and team this morning seemed to have some sort of storm clouds in their life. Even the pastor's sermon (which we don't get together about) was "When the Storms of Life Come." It was amazing how God has worked out services for us.

Have you ever had a horrible situation like mine this morning? How did God fix it?

Have you ever had services just seem to fit like this? How did God use it?

robynplusone: What do y'all think of this?

I just read this on TV Guide online.

TOUCHED BY REALITY: Überproducer Mark Burnett is developing a reality version of Touched by an Angel that could feature Angel stars Roma Downey and Della Reese, per The Hollywood Reporter. "It's an unscripted show that will be about bringing hope to people," says Burnett, who is talking to Donald Trump about doing crossover appearances as God.
I don't like reality TV for the most part (because it's anything but "reality"), and this doesn't look like a good idea. I mean, God wants us to use a variety of ways to reach the lost, but there are some places we just shouldn't go. What do you all think?

averypenguin: Question of the Week

Hey everyone, Avery here, community mod. I'm going to try and help us build our community by getting some more interaction and involvement going here.

Let's all try and invite people that we know are involved in the praise and worship lifestyle to join! In the meantime, I thought we could interact a bit through a "Question of the Week." Each week, I'll ask a question that everyone can answer.

This week's question:

What instrument do you play (including the voice) and how did you begin to get involved making music with it?

My answer...Collapse )

robynplusone: A prayer request.

Hi, all! I don't think I've posted here since I joined...but I do try to keep up with posts. I'm here to ask for your prayer. I am currently a member of a wonderful Southern Baptist church in Knoxville, TN while I'm a student at UT. I've been attending since September of 2002, and I joined um...February of last year, I think. I've been an active member, even taking on the role of worship leader while they searched for an interim.

But recently I haven't been going as much. I still love the people there, but I kind of feel something is missing. I've felt this way for months. And just recently, I have been given an opportunity to possibly co-lead worship and play in the praise band of a relatively new church plant in the area. I talked to the guy who will be leader soon and as he told me his vision, I got really excited. I'm reaaaaaaally interested. But I'm torn, obviously, because I've been with my church for almost three years now. I still have commitments (like Vacation Bible School this summer) and whatnot....

I don't even know if I've explained the situation that well. I really just need prayer about my (lack of) abiding in Christ, but also about becoming involved in the new church and/or being involved in my current church.

It makes me sad to see that this community hasn't been updated since April, maybe people went somewhere else.

I just got back from the Calvary Chapel Worship Leaders Conference. It was wonderful, ought to let you know.

And one of the very vital things I realized these past three days is God is overwhelmingly awesome.
